Sacristans are those who “...carefully arrange the liturgical books, the vestments and other things necessary in the celebration of Mass.” (GIRM, No. 105) The sacristan lays out what is needed for the celebration of Mass, such as cruets, chalices, ciboria, and linens. The sacristan also readies the wine, water and fresh hosts before the start of Mass, and cleans liturgical vessels after Mass concludes. Additionally, the sacristan assists visiting presiders with pre- liturgy preparation, and the ordering of supplies as needed.
